| Direct Transfer Degree: Are you really getting
one? |
| Important things to remember |
There are significant differences between
community college degrees that are "Direct
Transfer Degrees" and the community
college degrees that are not. Some of the
differences in how these degrees transfer
to EWU are listed below. A list of the approved
Direct Transfer Degrees is available here.
Direct Transfer Degrees that have been
approved
by EWU are liberal arts degrees that
include
a diverse group of general education
requirements.
Students who complete an approved Direct
Transfer Degree:
- Transfer to EWU as Juniors with 90 credits.
- Have satisfied EWU's general education core
requirements.
- Have satisfied EWU's competency and proficiency
in computer literacy.
- Have satisfied EWU's competencies and proficiencies
in Math and English composition.
(Note: Direct
Transfer Degrees do not cover required
coursework
in a major area. For instance, students
seeking
a business degree at EWU will still
be required
to complete English composition and
Math
requirements, either by coursework
at community
college, or by coursework or challenge
test
at EWU.)
- Will usually need approximately 90 credits (six quarters)
at EWU to complete a business degree.

Direct Transfer Degrees.

|
Technical degrees that concentrate in one
area such as Information Technology
or Marketing
that do not have a broad base
of liberal
arts classes are usually not
approved Direct
Transfer Degrees. |
Students who complete degrees that
are NOT
Direct Transfer Degrees:
- Transfer to EWU with credits based on a course-by-course
evaluation of their transcripts. Click here to calculate how many of the credits in
your community college program will transfer
to EWU.
- Must satisfy each of EWU's general education
core requirements, either at community college
or at EWU. Information on community college
courses that will satisfy EWU's general education
core requirements is available here.
- Must satisfy EWU's competency and proficiency
in computer literacy by coursework or challenge
test at EWU.
- Must satisfy EWU's competencies and proficiencies
in Math and English composition,
either by
coursework at community college,
or by coursework
or challenge test at EWU.
- Will usually need approximately 115 to 165
credits (7 to 11 quarters) to complete
a
business degree at EWU.
To graduate with 4-year degrees, students
must earn 180 total credits. A maximum of
90 transferable credits from all 2-year colleges
attended can be counted towards this requirement.
Students can choose to take more than 90
credits at 2-year school in order to satisfy
additional course requirements, but these
additional credits will not apply to the
180 credit graduation requirement.
